Season Opener

Well, this past week has been a great one, but I'm glad it's over!   We had our first bout of the season, and at home no less.  We followed it up with a Derbyversary party at the Artful Dodger complete with Rocktown's own version of cupcake wars and a few raffles.

Rocktown fought a hard game against the New River Valley Roller Girls.  Both teams showcased some new faces and old favorites and all took it to the track and laid it out there.

And of course once all the hard work of playing is done, it's time to head to the Dodger and party it up Rocktown style!  This was no ordinary afterparty though, this was Derbyversary.  So we had to party big and have a few special things to top it all off.

Like how about Cupcake Wars Rocktown style!

Three teams of Rocktown skaters worked together to create cupcakes and displays for them for this event.  Each buy into the war got participants one cupcake from each display and a vote for their favorite.

And what would a derby themed cupcake war be with out a track and bout replica out of cupcakes?

the cupcake derby bout replica! Congratulations to Sun Tzu-Z, Ginger Crush, Doll Nightmare, Canadian Breakin' and Sanity Clawz for the win.

Next up was a raffle for a gorgeous diamond earring and necklace set donated to Rocktown by Rocky's Gold and Silver.  Our own Little Miss Meany was the winner of that raffle.  Lastly is our season long raffle, which means you can still get in on this, a quilt made for Rocktown.

This will be at all home bouts and events for Rocktown this season.  Be sure to get your tickets for your chance to go home and curl up with your own piece of the team!

2013, The Year of Rocktown

2013.  The Chinese say it is the year of the snake, I disagree, it is the year of Rocktown!!!

This year marks five years that Rocktown has been in existence. Five years!  And Rocktown has grown by leaps and bounds in that time.  Starting as a small group talking about how cool it would be to have a team to now being an official 501(c)(3) non profit league with full WFTDA membership.

And I have written things and deleted them trying to find the perfect ways to describe how things have changed, how the league has grown and it all comes out jumbled.  Like someone trying to tell their crush how they feel without sounding crazy I just can't put the words together.  So let me show you, in pictures.

So many changes and new things going on this year.  And new people joining the family!

They won't be blowing two sets of whistles to start jams anymore, everyone will be going on just one whistle.  Oh, and no more minors, they will only be calling majors.  It's all or nothing.

So, now that I've showed you some of our pics, and I've told you some of the changes coming I know you are super excited for the first bout of the season to come.  Well, guess what, good news, you don't have to wait much longer!  February 24th, 12 days, we can survive that long, right? Maybe?

Christmas Wishes

This time of year we hear lots of things from kids everywhere of what they want.  Every commercial on the television brings a new desire and some of them are way more far fetched than practical.  So, with that thought in mind I figured I would make a RTR dream list for Santa.  Some are reasonable, some have already happened since I got these answers and some are as far a reach as my 7 year old's desire to wake up to a pony in the back yard.  But regardless, Santa here is your letter from Rocktown!


                              Dear Santa,

                              Members of Rocktown have these dreams:

                              1) free airfare for life

                              2) immunity to calories and fat in all dairy products

                              3) more time

                              4) peace and happiness for family

                              5) a banked track

                              6) a new car

                              7) cancer remission

                              8) big girl job

                              9) NHL and NHLPA to agree

                            10) weeks vacation to a warm sunny beach without having to drive more than four hours

                              11) new skates
